Chocolate Mountain Hot Springz is a 3 acre desert ranch in rural Riverside County, exactly 2 and 1/2 hours drive from Los Angeles. We are situated on a hillside with a panorama overlooking the middle of the eastern shore of the Salton Sea 4 miles away, with a sweeping view of the Salton basin, Santa Rosa & San Jacinto Mountains. This is true desert, 80 feet below sea level and immediately behind us rise the steep dark backdrop of the granitic Chocolate Mountain range. Native American artifacts have been discovered on the land here. A former fish farm we now use the concrete tubs for bathing in our naturally hot mineralized & slightly salty water, which flows out of our well at 124 degrees. There's a 40,000 gallon pond surrounded by palms and 12 concrete fish tanks, and we use this water to irrigate our 9 date palms, 15 native California fan palms, and 12 other fruit trees on our organic farm. The surrounding desert is mostly chaparral, Palo Verde, ironwood and brittlebush, with dark & light granite rocks on the surface. Our nearest neighbor is about a mile away and we are on the grid and have lots of parking space, while the All American Canal is a stones throw from our back fence. The skies here are consistently clear & blue with daytime temperatures very pleasant from October through May, but plenty hot from June-September. Sunsets are breathtaking, completely different from Palm Springs or the high desert, and the moon coming over the Chocolates in the winter is a sight to behold. The blue Sea is a pleasant view from our front porch but not odorous from this distance. The higher peaks on the western horizon have snow for a few months every winter and are also part of the scene. The house looks a bit like a Mexican restaurant from the front with a spacious porch, 4 bedrooms, 8 beds, 2 baths, a lovely fireplace room and a small kitchen...altogether 1500 square feet, and more basic than luxurious.
